More than 150 new houses could be built on the edge of a York village.
Housebuilder Gladman has applied for permission for a new housing estate off Tadcaster Road, north of Copmanthorpe.
A planning statement says that as the land is included in the draft Local Plan, which is due to be submitted to a government planning inspector soon, this early application should “help the council to immediately address the chronic shortage in housing land.”
Copmanthorpe’s city councillor, David Carr, said the site had the advantage of being surrounded by hard physical boundaries – the road and railway – which would “stop development spilling out on to surrounding land.”
