The figures show 1,340 homeowner-mortgaged properties were repossessed in the second quarter of 2025 as borrowers coming off lower mortgage rates onto higher ones struggle to stay on top of payments. According to the Bank of England, the rate charged on outstanding mortgages rose to 3.88 per cent in June, up from 2.93 per cent in June 2024 and 2.17 per cent in June 2020.
